Hi, there, I’m Genesis Davies, a freelance writer and Canadian expat living in Guatemala. I’ve been writing professionally for over 20 years and really enjoy it. However, recently things have changed.
Artificial intelligence came bursting onto the scene and took over my job! Okay, it wasn’t quite that dramatic, but that’s exactly what people worry about. Especially artists and writers right now.
I’m Not a Machine, I Swear!
I’ve been working for the same content provider for many years and rarely had any issues with them. Then, out of the blue, I got an email saying that one of my articles had been scanned by their new technology and it came up as being produced by AI. Now, I had never used AI before this, let alone write an article with it. I was shocked.
The first thing I did was take the article and run it through three different AI detectors and they ALL said that my article was AI produced. What the heck?
After some rewriting and trying to make it sound more human, I rescanned the article. Two AI detectors said it was human, one insisted it was still AI. Whatever. I submitted it . . . and got it back as being flagged yet again. After three tries, I gave up and told them I must be a robot.
Shortly after this, I found out that a number of writers were caught in the same net. And then? The company sent out an email saying that they were implementing a one strike, you’re out stance on AI content. Well, I have no way to prove that I wrote my own content, so that was terrifying.
As you can see, AI didn’t actually take my job, it just made everyone think I was a fraud. So, I spent a couple of days scared to write anything in case it came out too machinelike.
Then I picked myself up and moved on.
The Next Step
The way I saw it, I had two options. One, I could be fearful of AI and all that it represented and hide from it. Run away, keep pushing the human writing and refuse to go into the future kicking and screaming.
OR . . . I could embrace this new technology and learn more about it and how to use it. I chose the latter, of course, since you’re reading this. And I started to learn more about all types of AI and how to use them in our lives. There’s a lot of amazing stuff out there and if you’re like me and totally overwhelmed with the information available, let’s break it down.
Replace Your Brain is where I’ll share what I’ve learned, what other experts have learned, and tips and tricks for making AI your slave. Bwahahaha! Humans rule, robots drool. But in all seriousness, we can totally rock this and make our lives better with AI and maybe even earn some good money along the way.
So, follow along this journey into the future.
