10 Ways to Use MidJourney to Make Money

Youtube is full of videos on how to make money using Midjourney these days, but is it really a get-rich-quick method? Honestly, everything you do to make money is going to require some effort. That’s where most people get stuck. However, you can use MidJourney to make money online, so today we’ll be looking at ways to do just that.

How to Make Money from MidJourney

It’s definitely possible to make money with MidJourney. Here are five ways to do that:

  1. Sell the art on POD platforms like Zazzle or Redbubble
  2. Create printable wall art to sell on Etsy
  3. Write and illustrate a children’s book
  4. Create unique images to sell as stock images
  5. Make visual representations of characters in a book
  6. Teach others how to use MidJourney well
  7. Sell MidJourney prompts
  8. Create logos for companies
  9. Make t-shirt or mug designs to sell
  10. Make and sell stickers

If you know how to use MidJourney properly, you can make money with it, but it is essential that you learn how to properly create prompts and adjust the output. You may even need some photo editing skills.

Let’s break each of these methods down further.

Sell AI Art on POD Platforms

This is probably one of the most well-known methods of using MidJourney or other AI platforms to make money. You can create cushions, rugs, and more by uploading your AI art to a POD platform.

POD is Print on Demand, so you upload the design, create the product mockup and when people buy it, you earn money. Most companies let you set the percentage you want to make, so you can adjust the price a bit. However, it’s important to note that you generally don’t make money just by putting up art and products for sale on these sites. You actually need to promote them.

Promotion for your POD designs could be done on:

  • Your own site
  • Social media
  • Etsy
  • Art sites (for wall art)

This isn’t just a set-it-and-forget-it solution, since you will have to come up with new product ideas on a regular basis. Ongoing promotion is also a big part of your potential success.

Create Printable Wall Art

Another extremely popular option for making money with AI is to make your art and then sell it on a site like Etsy as a printable piece of wall art. These are surprisingly great sellers, but the market is pretty saturated, which means you need to look at better ways to get in front of people.

It may be worth looking at sites that are not Etsy, so do some research other places to sell. For example, you could create wall art that is suitable for classrooms and sell on Teachers Pay Teachers. Zazzle is a POD site that also offers downloads and printables and could be a good alternative for your art. You could also sell on your own site.

Something to keep in mind is that the art put out by MidJourney is not ready for print, since it needs to be upsized. If someone prints it out at a large canvas size, it will be blurry and rather low quality. You need to adjust the quality and size before you can do anything with the outputs.

Write and Illustrate a Children’s Book

Have you ever thought of writing a book? If you have an idea for a children’s book, but no real artistic talent and no money for a good illustrator, MidJourney could be the solution. Multiple people have now used the AI art generator to create beautiful art for their books.

You can use any style, so it’s possible to create cartoon illustrations, soft watercolor images, or any other style you like. All you need are the words for the book, which you may already have written down.

Once you have your books designed, list it on Amazon. Amazon’s KDP option allows you to create and sell both print and Kindle editions of your book. When you upload your book, Amazon sells it and will print any physical copies as they’re ordered. You should be careful to only put up high-quality products, though, or you’ll get a few sales, bad reviews, and your book won’t sell anymore.

Create Unique Stock Images

You may have noticed that every blog post image on this site uses AI. That’s because it can be really annoying to look through millions of stock images and never find just what you want. I’m sure I’m not the only one with this problem.

Creating unique stock images with AI is now possible with MidJourney’s recent update. The photo-realistic pictures are incredible and detailed, perfect for stock . . . but lots of people also want cartoon or digital art styles. If you need to know more about how to create photo-realistic pictures, check out my post: How to Get Photo-Realistic People in MidJourney.

Once you have your images, you can upload them onto various stock photo sites. Just be sure to check that they don’t prohibit AI-generated images.

Create Book Characters

Did you know that authors will pay you to create visual representations of characters from their books? Hop on Instagram or Tiktok and you’ll see images of their characters brought to life. Some of these are fan art, and some authors are also artists, but a lot of them are actually purchased.

It’s easy enough to take the description that the author gives you and plug it into AI to get a beautiful version of their characters. I would start out somewhere like Fiverr and offer your services with some examples of famous book characters in the genre you’re interested in working in.

Teach Others to Use MidJourney

Of course, you can always teach other people how to use MidJourney, much like I’m doing right here on this site. Udemy already has several courses set up to show you how to get the most out of your experience.

While there is some competition out there, it certainly isn’t huge amounts just yet. This is the perfect time to learn MidJourney well and then start sharing your knowledge. You could do this through video, social media, a website, or courses. Some people may even want one-on-one coaching. Why not give them what they want?

Sell MidJourney Prompts

Something that has recently blown up is prompts. It’s hard to write a good prompt for MidJourney that gives you exactly what you want. People get frustrated with the unsatisfactory results and start hunting for better ways to get the image they’re looking for. That’s where you come in.

If you’re really good at writing MidJourney prompts, you can actually sell those prompts. Several sites allow you to list the prompts, but the big one at the moment is PromptBase. You simply go in and list the prompt you’ve created and let people buy it. This really is more of a set-it-and-forget-it method, since people are still looking there for ideas, but you may need to promote it more in the future, as more people sell prompts.

Create Logos

Logo creation is a huge business. After all, every single company needs one and many people set up websites and need a logo for them. If they want a quick and easy logo, you could create them on MidJourney and sell these to whoever needs them.

MidJourney does not do text, so you should focus on the actual design. Now, there are two ways to go about this:

First, you can create a logo entirely on MidJourney. Block out any text with solid colors in Photoshop or Canva, and then add in the company name. You’ll need to try several prompts to get the right look.

Second, you can use MidJourney as inspiration. Have it do up some logos, then go ahead and design one based on the factors you like from the AI-generated options. This will give you a higher-quality version of the logo and you can charge more for it.

Make T-Shirt and Mug Designs

I run a T-shirt and mug sublimation business with my husband. There are frequent ads on Facebook that offer huge bundles of T-shirt and mug designs. These sell at anywhere from $35-99 and can have up to 3,000 designs. This is another way MidJourney would be excellent for making money.

You can create some pretty stunning designs for T-shirts on MidJourney. I’ve made some mugs myself from the designs that we’ve come up with. However, if you collect enough of these designs, you can sell them in bundles. People love to get a huge bundle with a wide variety of designs . . . but better yet, you can create 50 designs on a specific topic, like motocross, and then sell that for a higher price.

It’s certainly something to look into.

Sell Stickers

Stickers are a big seller, though I admit I’m not sure why. People are more than happy to spend a couple of bucks buying a single sticker as long as it fits their interests. You can use this obsession to your advantage.

First, you’ll need to create a great image in MidJourney. Stickers generally need a simple design with a white background. Once you’ve created something you really like, it’s time to turn it into a sticker.

There are POD companies like Zazzle that will turn your image into a sticker to sell, but you can also make them at home. If you have a Cricut and a printer, you can print out your images onto sticker paper, then cut them on the Cricut (technically this can also be done by hand, but quality is higher with a Cricut). Next up, sell them!

Where can you sell stickers? Literally anywhere. Your local craft fair, farmer’s market, online, offer them at a bookstore, etc. Authors and business owners often buy stickers to include with their packaging, so this is another market you should consider.

Bonus Idea: Zoom Backgrounds

Another option for earning money is through making virtual Zoom backgrounds. These are used when people don’t want to show their real backgrounds as they chat with someone on Zoom. Instead, they put up a fake background.

These are really easy to do up on MidJourney, especially now that the more realistic options are available. Here’s how to make Zoom backgrounds and earn some cash.

You Can Make Money with MidJourney

As you’ve seen, it really is possible to make money with MidJourney. If you’re adept at getting the results you want, there’s no reason you can’t make some cash off it. And these are just a handful of the ways you can use it for earning.

Whether you make shirt designs, logos, or sell printable art, MidJourney has the potential to make big money. Let’s see how far you can go with it!
